Cambeleve is a small hamlet. It is about 20 minutes drive from the Dordogne river with its leisure facilities and cultural sites. The Lot river is a 40 minute drive away. The region boasts many beautiful small towns to discover. Visitors enjoy day trips to the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, wine tasting tours around Cahors, craft beer-tasting in the delightful fortified town of Monpazier, shopping and mooching around Souillac, Brive and Bergerac, as well as the beautiful views and delicious ice creams available in the bastide town of Domme, one of many in the region.
It is 1hr 45 by car from Toulouse airport, and also accessible via Bergerac airport just over an hour away.
The nearest village, Salviac, is 5 minutes away by car and has a number of restaurants/bars, a supermarket, an excellent boulangerie, a medieval church and a market on Wednesdays.
The bigger town of Gourdon is about a 15-20 minute drive. Its circular medieval layout is full of intriguing passageways and many more places to eat, drink and shop.
There are several beautiful gardens to visit such as Eyrignac (with its famous pique-niques blancs once a week in the summer), Marqueyssac and les Jardins d’Eau de Carnac-Aillac. Lovely nearby châteaux include Castelnaud, Bonaguil, Beynac, Milandes , one-time home of Josephine Baker, and the spectacular Montfort, perched high above the river. Don’t miss a trip to Rocamadour and La Roque-Gageac, and the spectacular view (while eating your ice cream ) over the valley of the Dordogne at Domme is a must! There are also many caves to visit in the region if you chance upon a wet day.
Of course, the region is also renowned for the opportunity to spend time on the water – either the Dordogne, the Veyzere or the Lot – in a canoe or kayak. Short trips and long trips are possible, passing many spectacular sights on the way. The gentle current means that the going is easy for all ages. For the more adventurous, hot air balloon trips are a possibility too.
